Roddey and Skoufis to hold Q&A

Goshen Mayor and businessman Kyle Roddey will appear alongside his rival for State Assembly, Woodbury Councilman James Skoufis, at a candidates’ forum bright and early Wednesday, Oct. 17, according to a release.
Members of the Goshen Chamber of Commerce will host the forum from 7:45 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the Rhinebeck room at Glen Arden on Harriman Drive, where the candidates will field questions from the audience and via social media.
The two men are running for the seat in the newly redrawn 99th district of the N.Y. State Assembly. Incumbent Assemblywoman Nancy Calhoun is not seeking re-election.
The arrangement for the Republican and Democratic hopefuls to meet followed dueling announcements made last week, when each man trumpeted endorsements from local leaders of their respective parties.
Orange County Legislator Roxanne Donnery, who represents the towns of Highlands and Woodbury and the villages of Highland Falls, Woodbury and Harriman, gave her seal of approval to Skoufis for his stance toward the orthodox Jewish community of Kiryas Joel.
“James is the only candidate who has a history of standing up to Kiryas Joel’s special treatment,” Donnery said. “By standing up to KJ, James has proven to be the kind of elected official who not only addresses problems head on, but is also an ardent advocate for his community. That is the kind of representation this district deserves in Albany.”
Endorsing Roddey was Cornwall Town Supervisor Kevin Quigley, who praised Roddey as a business owner and community leader who understands the problems faced by taxpayers and businesses.
“I not only understand the problems facing our communities I work daily to solve them, and in order to be successful we need a partner in government that understands and has a record of pro-growth, pro-business policies and will always side with the job creator and protect the homeowner from already destructive property taxes and that is exactly why I am endorsing Kyle Roddey for State Assembly,” Quigley said.
If you are interested to ask the candidates questions from home, they will be responding to messages posted to the twitter handle @GoshenChamberNY during the event, according to the release.
