Robbery of jewelry store on Main Street under investigation

WARWICK — On or about 2 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 16, a thief or thieves broke both windows at Forever Jewelers, 36 Main Street, in the Village of Warwick, and stole about $500 to $600 worth of items on display.

The main loss, however, was the approximate $4,000 in replacement costs for the two showroom windows.

Owner Moshe Schwartzberg reported that he has a sophisticated alarm system and that the Warwick Police Department, which is currently investigating the robbery, responded immediately.

"They were here in a second," he said, "and much faster than me even though I live here. The officers were very professional."

Schwartzberg also praised the prompt response and careful attention he received from Nationwide Insurance at Warwick's Vogel and Moore Insurance Agency.

"They are also very professional," he said. "I've been doing business with Nationwide for 36 years."

Although the event occurred on the day before the celebration of Hanukkah, Schwartzberg's plans to host the celebration for the public of the first lighting of the Menorah in his store that evening were not canceled and the event was held as usual.

One thing is certain.
Schwartzberg feels this was a random and amateur act by one or more persons, possibly stealing to pay for drugs, and in no way a reflection on the Village of Warwick.

"I've been doing business here for 25 years," he said. "And this is the first time anything like this has ever happened. That should say something about this community."
