Ring in the New Year in Warwick at Apple Eve

WARWICK — The Village of Warwick’s year-long Sesquicentennial celebration will conclude on Apple Eve on Sunday, Dec. 31.
Ring in the new year, starting at 8:30 p.m. at Apple Eve on the Railroad Green in the Village of Warwick.
This free event, sponsored by the Village of Warwick Sesquicentennial Committee, promises fun for the entire family.
Time capsule The evening will begin with the burial of a time capsule designed by David Brandt. This capsule will be buried above ground in the garden bed at the Railroad Green Park.
“This time capsule is kind of a blue print to what this year was about and how we created it,” said Village of Warwick Mayor Michael Newhard. “We have copies of every flier and poster that we did, which will go in the capsule.
Newhard added that the Sesquicentennial Commemorative Booklet will go inside the capsule along with a letter from the Sesquicentennial Executive Committee and from Brandt. A plaque will indicate the location of the capsule which, according to Newhard, should be dug up first in 50 years from now at the beginning of 2067.
Raising the Apple ballAfter the capsule is buried, magician Bill Wilcox will entertain the crowd from 9 to 10 p.m., then at 10 p.m. children will raise the Apple, a fiberglass “ball” and have a chance to meet the Headless Horseman.
Throughout the evening everyone will have the opportunity to view photos taken throughout the year of the events that will be projected on the wall of a building on Railroad Avenue.
Local filmmaker Mary Collura’s, “Encapsulate,” a documentary about the 1967 time capsule will be shown.
Everyone will also have the chance to win free give-away prizes and have their picture taken in a photo booth.
Music will be provided by DJ Christopher Ford and Marty KuperSmith from the original Jay and the American will sing a few tunes.
Free refreshments will be available, including cakes provided by ShopRite of Warwick and Jean Claude’s Patisserie & Dessert Café and sparkling apple cider to toast the New Year.
Midnight countdownThe Apple will be lowered to a traditional countdown at midnight. Hats and horns will be provided to help everyone ring in 2018. And there will be a merchandise table featuring the Sesquicentennial Commemorative Booklet, mugs, T-shirts and more - all decorated with the Sesquicentennial logo by local artist Nan Hoey.
