– The Richard Jacob Rudy (RJR) Memorial Fund is a non-profit organization, based in Warwick and established in memory of Richard Rudy who passed away in a motor vehicle accident in 2005.
On Sept. 14, Town of Warwick Supervisor Michael Sweeton, Mayor Michael Newhard and members of the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce joined Katie Rudy-Tomczak, president of the RJR Memorial Fund, to promote the Oct. 15 Colors 4 a Cure 5K Color Run & Walk.
“We have all been affected by cancer in some way,” said Rudy-Tomczak, “so let's come together to create awareness, honor our heroes, and support our community.”
All proceeds from the Colors 4 a Cure 5K will benefit the Richard Jacob Rudy Memorial Fund, a 501c3 non-profit organization, which will in turn donate to local families and individuals being affected by cancer.
“At the Colors 4 a Cure 5K Color Run & Walk,” she added, “enjoy bright throws of color, fun music, friendly competition, awards and the fellowship of runners and walkers as well as family and friends.”
The 5K will start and end at Apple Ridge Orchard on scenic Jessup Road. The course is measured, certified and timed.
“Wear the color of cancer awareness of your choice, or wear white to get colored with powder,” said Rudy-Tomczak. “Let's honor and recognize those who have faced or are facing cancer with a race dedicated to the celebration of life. It will be a day of fun and happiness in order to support our fellow community members facing hard times.”

Scholarships

The RJR Fund donates annually to the BOCES CTE Scholarship Fund and awards scholarships to graduating students of the technical program.
“Our scholarships,” Rudy-Tomczak added, “have been awarded to graduates of the automotive technology and vehicle maintenance programs in honor of my brother Richie’s love for cars. We hold weekly car shows, an annual car show, and an annual 5K run/walk, all of which are fundraisers. And the proceeds are donated locally.”
