Regulations Are Often Protections for the Public

DOGE wants to cut all regulations?

Musk has said we can put back a few if we really need them. I wonder which ones he thinks should be eliminated? Regulations on food safety perhaps? The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that about 10 million cases of foodborne illnesses occur each year in the U.S., resulting in about 53,300 hospitalizations and over 900 deaths. These numbers reflect the situation with the current number of food safety inspectors, so if we eliminate regulations on food, (and maybe get rid of more of those pesky food inspectors,) we should expect even more illnesses and deaths.

Why should we have regulations about water quality? Do you care about levels of lead or bacteria in your drinking water? How about regulations on air pollution, which can cause asthma, heart conditions and certain cancers? Do you care about those toxic brews poured into our air?

Although it is true that such regulations can cost companies money but to them, profits are more important than your health?

Of course, some regulations are too complex or outdated and should be changed or eliminated but beware of anyone attacking regulations wholesale. You know who they are working for, and it’s not for you.

    Sincerely,

    Patricia DeBruhl
