Reducing carbon footprints one house at a time

WARWICK — The town and villages of Warwick announce HeatSmart Warwick, an opportunity to reduce energy consumption, cut greenhouse gas emissions and help homeowners not only reduce their energy bills but also increase the year-round comfort and value of their homes.
The campaign kicks off at "Home Heating Without Fossil Fuels," a community event at the Albert Wisner Public Library on Tuesday, March 26, from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m.
Sustainable Warwick is supporting the Energy Improvement Corporation’s Clean Heating and Cooling Community campaign in Orange County (Mid-Hudson region).
Energy Improvement Corporation is executing one of eight campaigns in the state funded by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority’s Clean Heating and Cooling Communities initiative.
It will play a key role in achieving Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s clean energy goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 40 percent by 2030 and supports his Green New Deal, the nation’s leading clean energy and jobs agenda which would set New York on a path to a carbon-free economy.
The goal of the Clean Heating and Cooling Campaign initiative is to bring together groups of potential customers to help them choose clean heating and cooling technology companies that offer competitive, transparent pricing.
Simplify and discountsThe campaigns simplify the procurement process and help customers obtain discounts by combining purchases.
The campaigns are also designed to educate and increase the awareness and knowledge of clean heating and cooling technologies among consumers.
Sustainable Warwick is the first campaign the Energy Improvement Corporation is executing in Orange County and will support the town-wide HeatSmart Warwick campaign from now through October.
Reducing carbon footprintsThrough events, tabling and outreach, Sustainable Warwick will provide information to homeowners about opportunities for better building efficiency and highly efficient cold climate air source and geothermal heat pump systems.
“Heating and cooling our homes without fossil fuels, such as by geothermal and air-source heat pumps, can take a big chunk out of our carbon footprints," Michael Helme of Sustainable Warwick said in the press releasing announcing the effort. "Recent innovations in air-source heat pumps in particular make them functional in Warwick’s climate throughout the year. And, not only is this good for the environment, it can also reduce energy bills.”
The local HeatSmart effort is designed to make clean heating and cooling technologies accessible and the process is easy for homeowners to learn more, sign up for an assessment and determine if these technologies are right for their home.
The organizers of the campaign will engage in community outreach to familiarize residents with these efficient home heating and cooling technologies, introduce them to homeowners who have already had them installed, provide vetted contractors, explain available financing, rebates and incentives and answer questions.
