Real stories, real local

Would you like to hear about a bicycle journey to ladle up warm fresh milk right off the farm?
The great fire on Maple Avenue?
Or Mayor Michael Newhard's capers in 'Seven Rooms Cave' at age 12?
Then come to the Warwick Anthology, a performance and celebration of our hometown's stories and art, at the Albert Wisner Public Library from 6 to 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, July 27.
Approximately 30 Warwick friends and neighbors will share their short (90 second) story about a memorable moment in Warwick.
Some storytellers will be known to you, and some not, but each will present a moment of lore or legend that was surprising, adventurous, humorous or heartfelt.
The stories will be shared family style on the big back porch of the library.
Just bring along a blanket or folding chair.
"There are those whose families have lived for generations in Warwick," said anthology conceiver Donna Haley, "others who have lived here several years and still others who have recently claimed it as their home. If you are one of these people, this special day is for you. Please come on July 27 and bask in the glow of our hometown, Warwick, The Albert Wisner Library has opened its doors and gracefully embraced the Warwick Anthology project, and we could not be more grateful."
Artists in Residence Peter Liepke and Elliot Belokostolsky will have their art on exhibit during July as part of the anthology.
Also on view will be a Warwick Watercolor Exhibit by local artists from Haley's Warwick Actor Training School's Watercolor Classes. Storytellers' photos and mementos of their stories will also be on display in the Library.
"Storytelling is a time-honored expression of history, myth and imagination," Newhard said. "It has been wonderful to watch the Warwick Anthology form as a collective voice in the tradition of Spoon River Anthology or Our Town. Donna has done remarkable work assembling the cast of locals, creating an intriguing format and boosting confidence.
"This will be a memorable evening full of surprises," the mayor added, "rich with the stories that make our valley a very special place."
