FLORIDA — Formerly known as The Cedar Chest, Random Acts of Consignment (RAC), 42 N. Main St. in the Village of Florida, has an ever-changing selection of brand name and designer label clothing and accessories for women, as well as a men's corner of casual and business attire.
On Wednesday, Oct. 26, Town of Warwick Supervisor Michael Sweeton, Florida Mayor James Pawliczek, Warwick Mayor Michael Newhard, and Florida Deputy Mayor Tom Fuller along with representatives of the Warwick Valley and Florida Chambers of Commerce joined owner Diane Pell and her staff for the official grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Pell, who purchased the shop in May, has a long history as a professional photographer working in various studio locations in Warwick and on location throughout the Hudson Valley and beyond.
"I'll always love photography," she said, "but it was time for a new challenge and being a shop-owner is proving to be that. It's like learning a new language but in a familiar country, having been a consignment shopper since my early teens."
Her vision for RAC is to provide the area with a fun and positive consignment-shopping destination, offering unique, trendy, classic, contemporary fashion and treasures for every income level.
With new items arriving each day, shoppers can count on surprises and rewarding discoveries at a fraction of the original retail price.
And in addition to new and like-new consigned clothing and accessories, RAC now carries carefully selected home accents, including tableware from Pottery Barn, Williams Sonoma and more.
Pell hopes the reference to "Random Acts" in the name she chose for the shop evokes a sense of kindness in customer relationships, kindness to the planet as committed recyclers, and kindness to her shoppers' wallets.
"This has been more of an adventure than I imagined," said Pell. "I love the flow of energy with people dropping off their merchandise and others dropping in to find something new. And I'm learning so much about fashion trends and getting to know the endless variety of individual, personal style favored by my shoppers."
On Friday and Saturday, Nov. 11-12, Pell will host a grand opening celebration with refreshments and a store-wide sale featuring 30-40 percent discounts.
Random Acts of Consignment is open from Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
