MIDDLETOWN — Pets Alive, a no-kill animal rescue organization in Middletown, will hold a “Pumpkins for Pets” event on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The community is invited to come out and make an in-kind donation to help care for the animals at Pets Alive.
In exchange, visitors can pick out a complimentary pumpkin from Pets Alive’s “pumpkin patch” as a special thank you for their generosity. Ruskiewicz Farms in Pine Island will be donating pumpkins for this event.
Cider and donuts will also be available.
“At any given time, we care for over 250 cats, dogs and farm animals,” said Becky Tegze, executive director at Pets Alive.
Daily, the animals need to be fed and their living area cleaned, which means Pets Alive needs a lot of food and supplies. The shelter is stretched thin with an abundance of new animals coming their way.
“We just rescued 18 dogs from the Carolinas, who escaped the floods caused by Hurricane Florence,” said Tegze. “And we’ve had an active kitten season, rescuing close to 200 homeless kittens from our community this year.”
The "Pumpkins for Pets" event is sponsored by Rob and Pat Sassi of William Raveis Real Estate in Warwick.
"We thought it would be a great and fun community event that would help raise awareness to the many needs of our local pet shelters like Pets Alive,” said Pat Sassi. "The cooler months are coming up, and Pets Alive is in need of all kinds of supplies. We hope the community will come out to drop off a donation and pick out a pumpkin from the 'pumpkin patch'!
Pets Alive needs dry and canned cat food (Friskies brand preferred); dry and canned dog food (Pedigree brand preferred; large contractor or 13-gallon garbage bags; laundry detergent (HE type); paper plates; paper towels; 3-lb. paper trays; bleach; towels, blankets and bed sheets; and office supplies including paper, pens, and folders. Monetary donations will also be accepted.
The event is located at Pets Alive, 363 Derby Road, Middletown.
