Protecting creatures great and small

WARWICK — In 2006 the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), using its signature color orange, kicked off April as Prevention of Animal Cruelty Month.
On Wednesday, April 15, Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus and representatives of County and local law enforcement agencies joined Town of Warwick personnel and animal shelter staff, who were all wearing orange tee shirts, to support Go Orange for Animals.
The Warwick Valley Humane Society is committed to assisting all Law Enforcement agencies in the investigation and prosecution of any and all suspected animal abuse.
"We thank everyone who joined us in our campaign," said Suzyn Barron, president of the Warwick Valley Humane Society. "And special paws of applause go to Deputy Town Clerk Melissa Stevens for organizing, ordering, selling and outfitting us with the custom logo bright orange tee shirts. Proceeds from the sale of the shirts were donated to our Princess Fund for animal victims of neglect and abuse."
This month orange bows and window clings are also displayed along Main St. in the Village of Warwick. And this year New York State and Orange County as well as both the Town and Village of Warwick supported the Go Orange campaign with official proclamations.
"Animal cruelty and neglect occurs in all social, economic and cultural denominations and is a valuable predictor of present and future violent individuals," said Barron. "We ask residents and businesses alike to join us in Go Orange for Animals by wearing an orange lapel ribbon or displaying an orange bow or awareness window cling for the rest of the month."
