WARWICK — Preschool Solutions has been described as a general education preschool with a flair.
On Tuesday, Sept. 5, members of the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce joined Preschool Solutions Director Laura Stubecki, her close family, staff and preschool families for a ribbon-cutting to celebrate the school's new building and grand opening at 1406 Kings Highway in Sugar Loaf
The focus of Preschool Solutions is learning through sensory experiences, hands on activities and small group learning
"This year," said Stubecki, "in our new building, we have a sensory room exclusively for the preschool. The foundation of social, cognitive, and fine motor skills is integrating your body and senses. Concepts such as up, down, over, under, through, are all concepts that we use in games, writing, and daily skills. If you understand those concepts with your body, it is easier to understand them when given a direction."
Stubecki was working in preschools as an occupational therapist (OT) when she saw many children who were not receiving OT struggling with their grasp on markers or scissors, with sitting during circle, or just struggling to pay attention. She thought it would be great if an OT and teacher collaborated in a class, not to just come in and see one or two children, but to work together for all children in general education.
Stubecki is also a certified yoga instructor.
"We practice yoga as part of our weekly routine," she said, "and we practice poses, play yoga games, perform circus yoga, and work with partners. The best part of yoga is teaching the children quiet time, which takes them a little time to get used to. However, very quickly the children can relax for five to seven minutes with classical music, low lights, and a little foot rub. The parent's favorite part of yoga is the end-of-year performance where the children show off their yoga skills to a contemporary song."
