GREENWOOD LAKE — In wave after wave, brave souls freely jumped into the icy waters of Greenwood Lake last Sunday afternoon to raise money for the Warwick Valley Humane Society.
The Polar Bear Plunge was part of the Breezy Point Inn's 19th annual Winter Carnival.
Donations from the crowd and the entry fees of the lake jumpers generated about $4,500 for the humane society.
The funds will be used to care for the animals currently under the care of the humane society, which includes one guinea pig, one rooster, two doves, six rabbits, 16 dogs and 114 kittens and cats.
