WARWICK — Village of Warwick Mayor Michael Newhard and members of the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce joined owner Charlie LaVerdi, a member of the Warwick Chamber, to celebrate Plaza Auto Driving School’s more than 50 years serving Orange County.
Plaza Auto Driving School was founded by Tim Ogut and has been located in Monroe since 1962.
LaVerdi, a New York State licensed driving instructor, purchased the firm in 2008.
He has been a driving instructor since the 1980’s and has instructed students in all types of vehicles including: motorcycles, automobiles as well as different types of commercial vehicles including tractor-trailers. He used to own a tractor-trailer company.
LaVerdi, who has lived in Warwick with his wife, Patricia, for approximately 20 years, is a former Parent Teachers Association (PTA) president in the Warwick school system. Their daughter Jennifer, a freshman at Carolina University, is studying to become a physician’s assistant.
“We offer professional automobile driving instruction in late model, dual controlled vehicles,” said LaVerdi. “All of our vehicles are equipped with dual brakes and are insured in accordance with all New York State and Department of Motor Vehicle regulations. Our licensed instructors are trained professionals who strive to maintain our high level of integrity.
