Play for the Park Summerfest raises more than $15,000

WARWICK — The weather cooperated and committee members believe the number of people visiting Play for the Park Summerfest held at Warwick Town Park could easily be over a thousand.
On Saturday, Aug. 19, the all-day fund raiser featured live music, a car show, craft beer and local wine, food trucks, a variety of vendors, local fire apparatus and lots of games and children's activities.
There was a $5 suggested donation per adult. And although the final tally is not in, factoring in sponsorships and other donations, the results of the event are expected to exceed $15,000.
The Summerfest event was hosted by Warwick Playground Dreams, a parents organization, created by Hannelore Chambers, with a mission to rebuild the playground at Stanley-Deming Park in the Village of Warwick by raising the funds for the materials and equipment needed.
Construction under the supervision of Play By Design's Certified Playground Safety Inspectors could begin as early as next spring.
The organization invites all members of Warwick's community to volunteer their time, funds, resources and talents to help make this dream a reality. And it offers donors sponsor opportunities ranging from engraved pickets and brick pavers to specific pieces of playground equipment.
There is also a "Play for All" sub-committee, which is dedicated to making Stanley-Deming Park an inclusive park for all children including those who are disabled.
This past April the organization sponsored a community brainstorming session called Design Day.
Play By Design's designers met with school-aged children as well as groups of younger children with their parents to hear what the children's dreams for their playground were.
Suggestions included a zip line, splash pad, ADA-accessible merry-go-round, climbing structures, slides, swings, musical features, castles, barns, tractors, animals, sea monsters and many others. The project is estimated to cost $300,000.
