Pink Friday raffle winner announced

WARWICK — On Nov. 7, Forever Jewelers held an official drawing for the raffle of his and hers matching Movado watches, valued at $1,400.
The watches had been donated by the Warwick Main Street jewelry store in time for the first celebration of Pink Friday, which had taken place on Oct. 19.
That event, co-sponsored by the Warwick Merchant Guild and Bon Secours Charity Health System, was held to support the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation.
The drawing for the watches was originally scheduled for Oct. 31, but Hurricane Sandy soon put an end to that plan.
Raffle winner Carol Stidworthy is a Warwick resident and a longtime customer of Forever Jewelers.
Stidworthy said she had noticed the Movado watches in the store window just after Warwick’s Applefest celebration and made it a point to come in and purchase a ticket.
The raffle raised $1,000 and the owners and staff of Forever Jewelers were happy to donate the proceeds to the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation in the New York Hudson Valley.
The foundation funds support services and outreach for people affected by breast cancer in the Hudson Valley, New York (Columbia, Dutchess, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, and Orange, Ulster and Greene counties).
The Foundation was founded by Dana Effron and Cathy Varunok, two community activists who saw a need for increased services for people with breast cancer.
For years, Effron and Varunok raised money for national breast cancer organizations but in 2004 they decided to focus their fund-raising efforts on helping their friends and neighbors in the eight counties of the Hudson Valley.
The Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation is a non-profit, 501-c-3 public charity.
