Pine Island hosts its sixth annual onion-eating contest on Aug. 18

PINE ISLAND The Pine Island Chamber of Commerce will hold its sixth annual onion-eating contest on Saturday, Aug. 18, at 6 p.m. in the Polish Legion of American Veterans Pavilion. The contest is in celebration of Pine Islands 3,000 acres of hearty onions that are famous throughout America. The winner will receive a plaque and a check for $100 from the Orange County Vegetable Growers Association. Registration is limited to 12 contestants. Contestants can register by calling Russell Kowal at 258-4792 or any chamber officer.
