Pine Island Chamber donates $1,500 to three groups who help the hungry

PINE ISLAND — The Country Dream restaurant, once the site of an important general store and supply resource for area mining operations, hosted the Pine Island Chamber’s annual holiday mixer where local organizations that address the needs of area families were recipients of the chamber’s goodwill.
The Florida Food Pantry, the Greenwood Lake Food Pantry and the Backpack Snack Attack each received checks in the amount of $500 toward their individual efforts to help families throughout the Town of Warwick.
In his presentation, Chamber President John Redman spoke of the cumulative impact that successive storms and a major recession have had upon the region.
The funds were part of the proceeds from the fourth annual Black Dirt Feast (warwickinfo.net/blackdirtfeast).
Despite the generosity of local residents, the supplies of area food pantries remain low while the demand is at an all-time high. Donations are encouraged. The chamber also collected non-perishable foods for the food pantries and toys for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.
The Country Dream, (warwickinfo.net/countrydream), located in the hamlet of Edenville, prepared dinner for the event that included some items from their family-style buffet menu.
The mission of the Pine Island Chamber of Commerce (pineislandny.com) founded in 1961, is to promote prosperity in the business community, support and enhance the uniqueness of the region, and to enrich the lives of all residents through community spirit and cooperation.
