Peter Barlet named Warwick Republican of the Year

WARWICK — Town Justice Peter D. Barlet has been named Warwick Republican of the Year for 2013.
Barlet, current town justice and an attorney with a practice based in Warwick, was selected for this honor based on his giving nature.
“He has done exemplary service for the community and for the party,” said Jan Jansen, the Warwick Republican Party chairman.
Listing Barlet’s attributes, Jansen said: “He’s a well-regarded jurist; he’s fair with people and he also spends a lot of time working with youth.”
Among the many community activities involving youth in which he has taken an active role, Barlet listed two as particularly satisfying: He has been a law guardian, representing children in family court, and he has been a judge in the countywide mock trial competitions for many years.
“Being recognized in this way by the Warwick Republican Committee is a great honor for me,” Barlet said, “because it represents my deep commitment to the residents of the Town of Warwick.”
Barlet is the immediate past president of the New York State Magistrates Association, an organization representing the state’s roughly 2,000 elected town and village justices.
In addition to serving as Warwick Town Court Justice, Barlet is also acting justice for the villages of Warwick, Florida and Greenwood Lake.
His law practice is located in the historic 1886 Excelsior Hose Co. building in the Village of Warwick.
The honor was given during the Warwick Republican Party’s annual brunch, held at The Landmark Inn in Warwick, April 7.
