Pennings Farm Market to host Brew versus Cru dinner pairing on March 9

WARWICK — Grape or Grain? Which takes its rightful seat at the dinner table?
At 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening, March 9, Pennings Farm, Pub & Grill, 161 South Route 94, and Skurnik Wines will present the newest trend in food and beverage experiences: The Brew versus Cru Dinner Pairing.
Cru, or vineyard, is a term often used within classifications of French wine such as Premier Cru.
A "brew versus cru" dinner is considered a unique way to introduce the simplicities and complexities shared by both beer and wine when paired with a five-course meal.
"It's a common assumption that wine is the natural companion to food, but beer is taking its rightful place at the dining table," said Adam Lloyd, Pennings' bar manager. "I see a definite movement of consumers using a discerning palate when they choose a craft beer, similar to wine drinkers."
On March 9 presenters will offer a short narrative on the featured wine and beer as well as answer questions from the participants.
Glohs earned a Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET) Diploma in Wine & Spirits from the International Wine Center and now represents Skurnik Wines supplying the top New York eateries with hard-to-find California cult wines and hosting food and wine pairings.
"I truly feel privileged to have been lucky enough to make a career out of this passion," he said.
Diners will take a competitive stand when selecting their favorite libation for each course of the five-course signature dinner prepared by Pennings' Executive Chef Heather Kurosz and Head Chef Oscar Elias.
After each dish and drink, guests will vote on the winning pairing and a champion beer or wine will be crowned at the conclusion of the evening.
