PINE ISLAND — Paul Ruszkiewicz will announce his campaign for District 3 of the Orange County Legislature on Sunday, Aug. 18, at Pine Island Town Park.

“It’s clear that County Government has lost the trust of the people they’ve been elected to represent,” Ruszkiewicz said in his press release announcing the campaign bid. “I am committed to leading with honesty, transparency and accountability when I am elected.”

District 3 includes the western part of Warwick (Pine Island, New Milford and most of Florida), the entire town of Minisink and two voting districts in the town of Wawayanda. It does not include the village of Warwick.

Ruszkiewicz has held various leadership positions locally, including president of the Orange County Vegetable Growers Association; chairman of the N.Y.S. Onion Industry Council; and chairman of the Wallkill Valley Drainage Improvement Association. He also serves as a member of the Town of Warwick Community Preservation Board.

“As a small businessman and fourth-generation onion grower in Pine Island, I represent the experiences and values that come with honest hard work, persistence and follow through on commitments,” Ruszkiewicz added. “Along with representing the people, I commit to working on the critical issues facing our region locally, as well as in Albany and Washington.”

The kickoff barbecue will be held under the Pavilion at Pine Island Town Park on Kay Road in Pine Island from 2 to 5 p.m. Hamburgers, hot dogs and assorted refreshments will be available. The public is welcome.

Admission is $25, kids are admitted free. Proceeds will benefit Ruszkiewicz’s campaign.
