Park Ave students celebrate veterans

WARWICK — The fifth annual Park Avenue Elementary School's Veterans Day Celebration was held Nov. 7.

PTA co-president Jeanine Garritano Wadeson welcomed the veterans at the beginning of the event. (Read her letter to the editor on page 12.)

Members of VFW Post 4662 formed the Color Guard.

Mayor Michael Newhard led the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance while the National Anthem was sung by “Cats Meow” of Warwick Valley High School.

Welcoming remarks were also made by Park Avenue Principal Sandra Wood; School Superintendent Dr. Raymond W. Bryant and state Sen. John J. Bonacic also spoke .

The keynote speaker was Specialist E5 Carmine Garritano.

Members of the Student Council - Maya Bieling, Laura Kaplan, Lauren McNamara and Quinn Sharkey - also addressed the group

As Garritano Wadeson read the roll call of those veterans in attendance, each stood and each was greeted with applaise.

The program ended with the entire student body, accompanied by Melinder Kessler, singing “Grand Old Flag.”
