Packages for soldiers

GREENWOOD LAKE — What started out as a simple request for fellow Greenwood Lake residents to bake cookies to send to a special service unit stationed in Afghanistan, led to a community that was so very grateful for their service.
Katheleen Holder said seven large parcels of various items, including cookies, hand warmers, toiletries, prepackaged food, etc., were sent out on Dec. 10.
"Through donations by Greenwood Lake residents, the Sons of the American Legion and the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 1443 as well as donations from North Main Street Elementary in Monroe," Holder said, "we were able to give these servicemen and women a little token from home. That they were being thought of and appreciated for their service away from family and friends during the holidays."
