Orange Regional offering free mammograms
MIDDLETOWN — Orange Regional Medical Center will offer free mammograms on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ray W. Moody, M.D. Breast Center. Appointments are limited and must be made by Wednesday, Sept. 4. Pre-registration is required.
The event is open to women without insurance who are currently not experiencing breast problems, while still meeting the following criteria. Participants must be over 40 years of age and have not had a mammogram within a year’s time. Women who have had a mammogram within a year’s time and are currently experiencing breast problems may still meet the requirements for participation. They are encouraged to call.
During the hour-long appointment, patients will receive a clinical breast exam and mammography, breast health education and self-breast exam training. The screenings will be led by Howard M. Karpoff, M.D., FACS and Ashmitha Srinivasan, M.D.
According to the American Cancer Society, about one in eight women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime and about 232,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in 2013.
