Orange County adies AOH march in NYC St. Patrick's Day Parade

NEW YORK — On Friday, March 17, members of the Orange County Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians (LAOH), including Warwick Division 1-3, marched in the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade.
The Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Inc. is a sisterhood of Irish-American Catholic women dedicated to charitable works and promoting their culture and heritage. "Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity" is their motto.
The LAOH began as the "Daughters of Erin" in 1894 in Omaha, Nebraska, to help immigrant Irish women find shelter and jobs and maintain their culture. It is an auxiliary to the men's group.
This year Peggy Flynn, vice president of the Orange County LAOH, led members from Divisions 1-3, 2, 5 and 6 from their assembly station on 44th Street and then up 5th Avenue to 79th Street.
"We march every year," said Warwick Division 1-3 President Patricia McAteer.
She explained, however, that County President Terry Meyer, who would have normally led the group, had another obligation that day.
"Terry," she said, "had the honor of being the first woman aide to the 2017 Grand Marshall, Mike Dowling and she marched with the other aides at the head of the parade."
Meyer was born in County Cork, raised in Orange County and is a resident of Middletown.
The Ladies of the Ancient Order of Hibernians of Orange County work closely with Catholic Charities.
