Opa Greek Grill celebrates grand opening on Oakland Avenue

WARWICK — Authentic Greek food is now available in Warwick.
On Tuesday, May 16, Mayor Michael Newhard and members of the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce joined executive chef-owner George Anastasis, his family and staff to celebrate the official grand opening of Opa Greek Grill.
The new Greek restaurant at 10 Oakland Ave. features spanakota, falafel sandwiches, chicken, pork or gyros, lamb souvlaki, moussaka and grilled shrimp along with Greek-style grilled salmon, baby lamb chops, Greek meatballs and homemade desserts.
Anastasis said that every dish is made fresh and they never use frozen ingredients.
He also explained why he decided to open his restaurant in Warwick where he lives with his wife, Deanna, and his three children: Christopher, 15, Alexa, 13, and Sophia, 9.
"I always wanted to open a restaurant here in Warwick, a mecca for fine food," said Anastasis, who is originally from Queens. "And there's no better people than in Warwick,"
The owner/chef has been cooking since he was a teenager, learning from his father, Manny, who owned several restaurants in New York City.
Anastasis studied culinary arts at Sullivan County Community College. He also operated several restaurants in Sullivan County, including the Liberty Diner, West 17 Diner and Manny's Seafood and Steakhouse and the Goshen Diner before opening his restaurant in downtown Warwick.
Opa Greek Grill also offers catering and take-out.
"Impress your Super Bowl guests with Greek food, a novel alternative to pizza," said Anastasis. "They will leave your home saying. 'Opa!"
Take-out suggestions include a Zeus Combination Platter of chicken souvlaki, pork souvlaki, gyro meat, grilled pita, large Greek salad and a choice of French fries, lemon potatoes or rice.
Homemade desserts are based on recipes from Anastasis' mother, Voula.
Opa Greek Grill is open Tuesdays through Sunday.
