WARWICK — The Warwick Valley Community Center Odyssey of the Mind team, comprised of sixth and seventh grade students at Warwick Valley Middle School, is headed to the World Finals competition, to be held May 22-26 at the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing.

The team earned the right to go to the finals by finishing second at the New York State Odyssey of the Mind Tournament held in Binghamton last month.

The trip to Michigan will cost $8,000.

With the assistance of Warwick Valley Schools Superintendent Dr. Ray Bryant, the team has secured an anonymous benefactor who has agreed that, if the team can raise $4,000, he or she will match it and provide the remaining $4,000.

With various fund raisers already held, including hot dog sales at Wadeson Home Center and coin drops at ShopRite and Larry’s Deli, the team is $1,800 on its way.

With $2,200 to go to meet its goal, the team is seeking help from the community. The upcoming fund raisers include:

Hot dog sales every Saturday at Wadeson Home Center.

A car wash Saturday, April 27, at Leo Kaytes Ford.

Contributions in any amount to the team’s fund may also be made payable to “Warwick Community Bandwagon,” with an Odyssey of the Mind notation, and sent to 11 Hamilton Ave., Warwick, N.Y. 10990.
