WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — The owner of the Indian Point nuclear power plants in New York says it probably won't have to make any major changes to comply with new earthquake information.

Federal regulators on Jan. 31 released a new study of seismic hazards in the central and eastern United States. Nuclear plants in the area are being ordered to use the new information to update their earthquake preparedness.

The study is part of the government's review of plant safety in the context of last year's quake-and-tsunami disaster in Japan.

A spokesman for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission says Indian Point is not mentioned specifically in the study. Plant owner Entergy Nuclear says it believes the analysis will show no major changes from earlier studies that found Indian Point sufficiently protected from earthquakes.
