Nine local ‘Women of Distinction’ honored

WARWICK — Nine local “Women of Distinction” were honored last Saturday, March 9, for their community service and accomplishments during the annual Women’s Season Luncheon.
The luncheon, sponsored by Warwick’s Women of Union African Methodist Episcopal Church, was held at the picturesque Mulder Chapel Banquet Hall at the Warwick Conference Center. Co-chairs for the event were Channabel Latham-Morris and Bessie Holmes. The occasion attracted approximately 100 guests.
“Your exemplary work has not gone unnoticed,” said Rev. Kevin T. Taylor, Pastor of Union AME Church. “We pray that this moment of tribute will be a source of encouragement as you continue to commit yourself to your great work. Accept the well-deserved accolades with pride. You have certainly laid a solid foundation of goodness.”
Local officials who were present or participated in the ceremony included Orange County Legislator Alan Buckbee, III, Town of Warwick Supervisor Michael Sweeton, Deputy Supervisor James Gerstner, Village of Warwick Mayor Michael Newhard, Town of Warwick Justice Nancy DeAngelo and her husband, Councilman Floyd DeAngelo.
“As part of Women’s History Month the Women’s Season Committee at Union, wanted to give back to a community that has served the church well for more than a century,”said Latham-Morris. “To all our Women Season participants, we thank you, we love you and we appreciate you. Join with us as we continue to work with our youth in our community to help develop better citizens for the next generation.”
