New traditional barbershop celebrates grand opening

WARWICK — On July 24, local officials and members of the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce joined John Gargano and his associate barber for the official grand opening of his new barbershop at 17-19 West St. in the Village of Warwick. The Barber Shop of Warwick is a traditional, full-service grooming experience in a relaxed and classic setting. It’s a reminder of what men’s barber shops looked like a generation or more ago. There’s even a pair of striped barber poles outside and the walls are decorated with boxing photos from Gargano’s grandfather, an amateur boxer who competed in the Golden Gloves. The Barber Shop of Warwick is the first such shop for Gargano, who graduated from Washingtonville High School and went on to earn his associate’s degree from SUNY Orange before barbering as an apprentice. Gargano earned his barbering license in 2001 and he has worked in barbershops in Newburgh, Middletown, Chester and Monroe. With many towns and villages having hair salons, unisex shops and the like, Gargano saw a need for an old-fashioned barbershop. He wanted to establish what he describes as “a gentleman’s shop, where one could go to get a haircut and shave, just like in the good ‘ole days.’” This past April, Gargano found a suitable location in Warwick on West Street, only steps away from Main Street in the downtown business district. “The Barber Shop,” he said, “is a place where men can step back in time to when a simple gentleman’s haircut left you feeling like a million bucks.” Gargano explained that at the Barber Shop of Warwick seasoned and professional barbers will give you the time and personal attention you deserve to leave you looking and feeling your best. “We offer old-fashioned straight razor cuts to modern tapers and fades,” he said. “Treat yourself to a traditional barber shave, a beard or moustache trim with hot towels and a neck and shoulder massage. Children’s cuts are also welcome and kids will feel at ease in our family-friendly atmosphere.” The Barber Shop of Warwick is open Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. No appointments are necessary.
