Museum Village to re-open its Energy Building

MONROE — The Energy Building, which is one of the largest exhibits at Museum Village, will re-opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sunday, July 27.

Closed for all of 2013, this exhibit has some of the largest and most unusual artifacts in the museum's collection.

"This building, more than any other, demonstrates how America transitioned from an agricultural society to one driven by the evolution of technology," Michael Sosler, executive director of Museum Village said in the museum's press release announcing the re-opening. "And it is this transition that forever changed life in the 19th century. From the Corliss engines that powered manufacturing, to the gasoline engines that made farm work easier, to the simple electric fan, technology was affecting a new life. Thanks to a grant and the sponsorship of Orange & Rockland Utilities, this upgraded exhibit will present the visitor's with a truly remarkable experience."

Some of the upgrades to the exhibit include:

A completely new exhibit to allow the visitors to better appreciate the amazing equipment;

Upgraded lighting to properly showcase the machinery artifacts;

Protection of the artifacts on display; enhanced signage and interpretation;

And, of course the painting and maintenance just to name a few.

"We have been working on getting this project done for quite some time," Sosler added. . "We are still planning much more for this exhibit - such as an audio/visual interactive display - but I feel it is very important to get it open sooner rather than later. We will continue working while the visitors can enjoy."

The public is invited to the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sunday, July 27, at 12:30 p.m.
