WARWICK — Mount Peter Ski Area will host its third annual Winter Carnival this Sunday, Feb. 26.

The purpose of the event is to raise money for Team Mount Peter in the 2012 Avon Breast Cancer Walk.

This Sunday families are invited to enjoy skiing and snow boarding at Mt. Peter along with food and refreshments while participating in carnival games, raffles, contests and musical entertainment.

All proceeds are earmarked for Team Mount Peter, which in turn will donate the funds to the 2012 Avon Breast Cancer Walk.

In New York, that event has been scheduled for Oct. 20-21.

During those two days the team members will walk 39 miles. Registration is $65 and each walker commits to raising a minimum of $1,800.

Team Mount Peter has donated more than $30,000 to the Breast Cancer Walk in the past three years.

This year the team has also put together a “Men of Mount Peter Calendar” for fun as part of their fund-raising efforts. And it will be on sale during the winter carnival.

The money is used to provide breast cancer screening for both men and women and to help pay for treatment if necessary. Funds are also used for cancer research.

According to its Web site, Avon philanthropy has donated more than $740 million to breast cancer research and access to care programs in the 20 years since the crusade was first launched. The Avon Foundation for Women stresses that it is not affiliated in any way with Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

“Join us in the fight against cancer by coming out on the 26th and enjoy a fun filled day of games, events, music and more,” said Team Captain Amy Richardson.
