Mistucky Creek Homebrew and Wine Making Supplies hosts grand opening

WARWICK — On Feb. 21, public officials and representatives from Warwick’s business community joined owners Lloyd and Janet VanDuzer and home brewers for the official grand opening of Mistucky Creek.

The company, which sells homebrew and wine making supplies, is located at 331 Route 94S near the New Jersey State line and just left of Warwick General Rental.

Lloyd VanDuzer is well-known in Warwick as the owner of VanDuzer Plumbing & Heating, Inc. But what many people did not know was that he was also a home brewer of handcrafted beers.

VanDuzer knew that it was difficult to purchase ingredients in this area. The closest retail supply store was more than an hour’s drive from Warwick and ordering online meant shipping charges and advanced planning to have all your supplies by brewing time. Here was an opportunity to fill a need.

“It’s been a pipe dream since I began brewing to open a homebrew and wine making supply store,” said VanDuzer. “It may have been a far fetched idea but with the ever growing popularity of home brewing and wine making in this area, I began considering it.”

VanDuzer enjoyed the encouragement and support of his wife, Janet, his son Doug and daughter Jamie.

The family developed a plan to open Mistucky Creek as a family business.

“We each had individual qualities that would help with the business,” said VanDuzer. “Doug and I would concentrate on the beer-brewing end. Janet and Jamie would focus on the wine making.”

Mistucky Creek has a sizable following of home brewers and wine makers but there’s an open invitation for those who would like to get started or who are just curious.

“It’s a fun, rewarding and easy hobby,” said VanDuzer. “If you can bake a cake by following a recipe, you can do this too.”

He also explained that starter kits are available at reasonable prices and that home brewing and wine making not only saves money but that Mistucky Creek’s policy of only stocking fresh ingredients results in high quality products that will exceed expectations.
