PINE ISLAND — Among the more than 200 guests attending this year’s Black Dirt Feast on Aug. 7 at the Scheuermann Farm & Greenhouses on Little York Road was Michael Kamrowski, the first winner of the new Black Dirt Scholarship, presented by the Pine Island Chamber of Commerce.
The award is $1,000.
Speaking in front of the guests on the great lawn of the Scheuermann Farm during the cocktail hour of the sold-out event, Kamrowski commented about the benefits of having been raised among the farms of the Black Dirt Region that allowed him to pursue his own passion in environmental studies at Penn State University beginning in just a few weeks.
The Black Dirt Feast (http://warwickinfo.net/blackdirtfeast) showcased some of the top chefs in the region and the farmers who produce the fruits and vegetables they use, while helping to raise money for community projects. The mission of the Pine Island Chamber of Commerce, founded in 1961, is to promote prosperity in the business community, support and enhance the uniqueness of the region, and to enrich the lives of all residents through community spirit and cooperation.
