May 21 budget votes and school board elections

Voters in the Florida, Greenwood Lake and Warwick Valley will decide Tuesday, May 21, on spending plans for the next school year and to elect the volunteers who will make the hard decision about public education spending. Here’s a synopsis:
Florida voters will vote on $19.57 million budget
FLORIDA — Florida School District residents will vote on a proposed $19,574,675 school budget on Tuesday, May 21.
This proposed budget is a $737,870 or 3.92 percent increase over last year with a tax levy of 3.79 percent.
Additionally, an uncontested Board of Education election will take place for the two available seats on the seven member board. Dan Codi will run for this fifth term on the board and Karyn Meier will run for her third board term.
The vote will take place at the S.S. Seward Institute Music Room from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

GWL voters to decide on proposed $23.85 budget
GREENWOOD LAKE — Greenwood Lake residents will vote on a proposed $23,859,490 school budget on Tuesday, May 21, with four people vying for two available seats on its Board of Education.
The proposed budget is a $714,030, or 3.08 percent increase over the previous year, with a tax levy of 1.76 percent.
Newcomers Lena Buckley, Brian Endrikat, Karyn Gardiner and Mary Lally Fagan are seeking a seat on the seven member board, which has had a one seat vacancy this year.
Voting will take place at the Greenwood Lake Elementary School Library on May 21 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Warwick voters to vote on $82.4 million spending plan
WARWICK — Residents of the Warwick Valley School District will decide on a proposes $82.4 million spending plan for the 2013-14 school year, which would increase spending by $2,420,774 or 3.02 percent.
Voters also will have to decide among seven candidates for three seats on the school board (please see candidate Q&As on pages 2 and 3)/
Voters also will be asked to decided on bus purchase and capital improvements referendum as well as an update transportation threshold to one mile.
