Lycian Centre for Performing Arts under new ownership

SUGAR LOAF Richard Logothetis, founder of the Lycian Centre for the Performing Arts, has stepped down as owner of the centre and is bestowing the state-of-the-art theatre complex to the community, with oversight by a newly fortified board of trustees.
The Kings Theatre Co., a not-for-profit theater production company and primary operating entity at the Lycian, took ownership of the eight-acre Lycian Centre complex Feb. 24.
The aim of the Kings Theatre Board of Trustees is to build on the success of the Lycian Centre and advance its mission into a vital and thriving cultural center that nurtures great art and makes performance accessible to every part of the community.
On behalf of Kings Theater Company, we are pleased to work closely with the business community and government representatives to enhance the performing arts in the Hudson Valley, said Jim Sandler, president of the board of trustees. We are striving to make the Lycian Centre the premiere location for performing arts, where artists can work, students can learn and technicians can develop their craft. Our ultimate goal is to cultivate a love and appreciation for the performing arts at every level of the community.This board of trustees, Logothetis said in the press release announcing the change, has the enthusiasm and cross-section of talent to take the theater to the next level.
Whats ahead The renewed Lycian Centre will premiere with the 2012-13 season, projected to run from September to December 2012 and February to May 2013, followed by a summer season.
The board plans to partner with artists and arts organizations in New York City and throughout the region to produce and present high-caliber works and introduce audiences to new art forms, including electronic and media arts.
The Lycian will continue to provide hands-on teachings of acting and movement techniques through the Kings Youth Theater, the trustees said in the press release.
The Lycian also will partner with SUNY Orange to offer a new technical-training workshop for students who are considering careers in the technical aspects of theater.
