Orange County’s premier leadership training program is currently accepting applications for its 2014 class. Leadership Orange, now in its 20th year, will accept applications through June 1.

Leadership Orange is the county’s premier leadership training program. Started in 1993 by community and business leaders to train new and emerging leaders, it has developed over the past 20 years into a multi-dimensional training program for both adults and youths.

Over a 10-month period, class participants receive training on topics important to Orange County residents and businesses including education, health and human services, communications, government and politics, the environment, culture and recreation, economic development, leadership development, and the judicial system. The training enables community members to better understand the many challenges facing the county and, therefore, better serve the community. More than 575 women and men have graduated from the Leadership Orange adult program since its inception.

Classes meet on the first Wednesday of each month from September through June. The full day program includes presentations, role-playing and roundtable discussions.

Candidates and nominations are welcome from all walks of life and all age groups over 18 years. Leadership Orange requires that candidates must have prior leadership exposure, express a willingness to volunteer for community projects, boards of directors or elected offices as a graduate, must live or work in Orange County, demonstrate evidence of creativity, and demonstrate effective communication skills.

“It is very important to identify and prepare new leadership for our community," says Michael Flynn, chair of the selection committee for Leadership Orange. "The more connected you are to the County, the more influence you will have on what the region becomes. Leadership Orange provides you with inside information on how the county works while at the same time, connecting you with some of Orange County’s top leaders.”

Class size is limited to 36 participants. Tuition for the 2013-2014 Leadership Orange program is $1,100. This covers all costs including meals and all course materials.

Tuition is due upon acceptance into the program and is non-refundable. Applications are open to the public and individuals from all sectors are encouraged to apply. Call 845-457-1550 for your application or email Karolyn Osborne Thompson at Karolyn@leadershiporange.org.

Leadership Orange is a private, non-partisan organization that relies on support from the business community to reach its goals. For more information on the program please call Karolyn Osborne, executive director at 845-457-1550.
