WARWICK — Kitchen and Bath Works, 314 Route 94 South, began the current school year by offering its customers an opportunity to donate $500 toward the school or organization of their choice as part of having a complete kitchen remodeling.
On Sept. 18, owner Mechelle Casciotta presented the first check in support of a school to Keely Blaikner, director of the Warwick Valley High School Orchestra.
The Kitchen and Bath Works offer is part of a greater movement within the Warwick Valley Business Community to create more local options for fund raising.
Casciotta and Greyson Floss, president of Community Vision, Inc. believe more can be done in communities like Warwick by using local businesses to support local non-profit organizations.
“Community Vision,” explained Floss, “is a company committed to promoting local sustainability throughout the Warwick Valley.”
Casciotta and Floss say that the Warwick Valley can keep more money within local coffers by creating a symbiotic relationship between local organizations and local businesses.
“The current way of fund-raising competes with local businesses and hurts non-profits in the long run,” said Floss. “In both today’s economy and in the future, it’s important for local businesses to support non-profits as they struggle to meet tight budget requirements.”
Floss and Casciotta argue that the current model of fund-raising offers products and promotes businesses based out of the community and even out of the state. Both believe that fund raising should be community-rooted, which helps to improve the well being of the community as a whole.
Kitchen and Bath Works is just one of more than 40 local businesses that Community Vision currently works with to promote local fund-raising options.
“An offer like Kitchen and Bath Work’s can benefit any organization,” said Floss. “And why not try to give back when you’re making a purchase you were planning to make anyway.”
All of the offers and products offered by Community Vision are designed to promote local businesses and to support non-profits in a sustainable way.
“Cross-selling is an established practice,” she said. “Cross-supporting can be a win-win for any community.”
