Kids, firefighters and safety

GREENWOOD LAKE — Volunteers from the Greenwood Lake Fire Department visted preschool classes, the elementary and middle schools and the Senior Center as part of the department’s Safety Week progeam earlier this month.
The children had a chance towear a firefighter’s helmet and to fire a hose.
A firefighter got dressed in his bunker gear to show the young children that he wasn’t a scary person with his mask and other equipment.
The children were taught to dial 911, to call out “I’m over here” so a firefighter can find them and to have a practice drill and meeting place in case of a fire.
Firefighters also stressed the importance of not going back indoors to find pets as the firefighters would find them.
Photographer Ed Baileys captured some of the scenes for The Warwick Advertiser.
