    — The Warwick Town Board has appointed Jean Corbi Ciappa as the new Coordinator of Volunteers for the Warwick Friendly Visitor Program.
Corbi Ciappa has served on the Board of Advisors since its inception late in 2016.
She was congratulated by Town Supervisor Michael Sweeton, who recognized her professional background as an asset for the town and conveyed his confidence that she will bring the program to a whole new level.
Town Board member and FVP Board of Advisor Floyd DeAngelo pointed out Corbi Ciappa’s history with serving as a volunteer as well.
61 volunteers, 1,968 servicesAt the same meeting, Vince Copello, chairman of the Board of Advisors for the Friendly Visitor Program, provided a year-end report of an impressive 1,968 volunteer services provided for a total of 1,396 hours with a total of 108 neighbors having been served by 61 volunteers.
The Friendly Visitor Program is designed to offer supports for aging neighbors in our community to maintain their independence.
The offer of supports by a neighbor also engages that person in the community and both parties have something to gain. Simple gestures make a difference and you gain more than you give.
Volunteers and trainingThe Friendly Visitor Program is still in need of more volunteers.
Volunteers are matched with neighbors requesting supports and the fit meets the concerns of both parties.
The next volunteer training session will be offered on Monday, March 18, at the Albert Wisner Public Library from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The training is provided by Jewish Family Service (JFS), a long-standing non-profit agency serving Orange County. Jewish Family Service serves in a partnership with the Town of Warwick.
Volunteers are insured while they are providing a service and go through a background check at no charge.
A modest travel reimbursement is offered through the town’s partnership with The Office of the Aging.
Help neighbors stay engaged in our community and help yourself by becoming engaged in this volunteer service.
