Jean Claude's Bakery and Dessert Café closes Warwick Village facility

— The bad news is that after 21 years at the same location owners Jean Claude and Annette Sanchez have announced that Jean Claude's Artesian Bakery and Dessert Café will no longer remain open at Mitchell Corners Shopping Plaza in the Village of Warwick.
The good news, however, is that they will continue to operate and serve their loyal clientele at their second location, which they have owned and operated for 11 years, at 122 Windermere Ave. in nearby Greenwood Lake.
On Sunday, Oct. 28, Mayor Michael Newhard and Merchant Guild past President Mary Beth Schlichting, along with a group of merchants and loyal customers, arrived at the Mitchell Corners shop to express their appreciation for one of the village's most cherished businesses.
On behalf of her fellow merchants, Schlichting presented a bouquet of flowers to Jean Claude and Annette Sanchez and, after posing for photos, the group returned to the café for a Champagne toast.
"If you think of the village as a cake," said Schlichting, "you are the butter and sugar that made it."
Annette Sanchez explained that the hardest part about leaving the village was having to inform their most loyal customers, whom she calls, "frequent fliers," who enjoyed relaxing in the café and selecting their bakery for important occasions.
"We thank our customers," she said, "for letting us be part of their celebration of life."
Newhard offered his own special toast.
"What we want to express to Jean-Claude and Annette," he said, "is thank you. Merci du fond du couer. Thank you from the bottom of our heart. Your presence has inspired us, taught us about the tradition and delight of French pastry. Thank you for remarkable and memorable cakes that have turned our celebrations into something very special. The spectacular cakes created for the Villages Sesquicentennial will remain in our memories for years to come. A cake from Jean-Claude's remains the mark of sophistication and taste. To know you will only be a little bit away is a great reason to visit Greenwood Lake."
