WARWICK — The Warwick Valley Community Center sponsored Division 2 Odyssey of the Mind team, comprised of 11- to 13-year-old sixth and seventh graders went to the World Finals at Michigan State University May 22 through 25.

Students partaking in the competition are given a topic and need to create a problem-solving skit, writing scripts, making costumes and sets, without the assistance of adults.

The team from Warwick, which has been together for almost five years, placed sixth in spontaneity and 12th overall out of 41 teams worldwide, solving the long-term problem: “It’s how you look at it.”

The group raised $4,000, which was matched by an anonymous donor to pay for the trip where they were able to meet and make friends with students from all over the world.

Staying at the University of Michigan, they traded pins and joined with a buddy team from Mexico.
