It's as easy as pie

WARWICK — It's as American as apple pie.
The holidays were over and it was somewhat dreary, snowy and very cold outside. But last Sunday there was lots of warmth and fun inside Noble Pies Café in the Village of Warwick.
That afternoon, Jan. 26, was also National Pie Day. And according to the American Pie Council, it's the only holiday that's all about indulging in America's favorite desert, pie.
In conjunction with that event, Noble Pies had invited the public to share in the excitement of a traditional pie-eating contest as well as drawings for prizes and samples of baked goods.
The contest, billed as a fun, family event, was free to enter and open to children of all ages. The response was extraordinary and the café was packed with parents and children along with onlookers and the local media.
Entrants, with their hands behind their backs, had to eat as much of one blueberry pie as they could in 10 minutes.
The first place prize was a free pie in each of three months. However this particular contest ended in a tie for Jason Hranitz, 14, and Travis Stella, 10. Owners Leslie Noble and her husband Tom Herman awarded each of the youngsters the same first place prize.
In addition to the café at 38 Main St. in downtown Warwick, Noble Pies also has a bakery at 121 Route 94 South.
