In brief
Voters approve Florida library budget
FLORIDA Voters approved an operating budget for the Florida Public Library that carries a $332,800 tax levy on Tuesday. The vote was 137 for the budget; 40 opposed to it.
The spending plan shows an increase of $14,810 over the current budget. According to library officials, the estimated tax rate for residents living in the Town of Goshen will increase by four cents to $.94 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. For those Florida library patrons living in the Town of Warwick, the tax rate for $1,000 will increase by 20 cents to $4.20.
Voters also elected incumbents Ian Murphy and Sheryl Linton and newcomer Adam Fernandez to the librarys Board of Trustees for three-year terms.
A park grows in Greenwood Lake
GREENWOOD LAKE Warwick Town Supervisor Michael Sweeton reports that work continues to implement the towns recreation plan commissioned in 2006. He writes:
One of the final pieces is the development of a soccer field and softball field in our eastern section of town, within the Greenwood Lake area. Continuing our success with public-private partnerships, the town, with support from the Greenwood Lake soccer club and the mens softball organization, work has begun in the Greenwood Lake town-owned park (formerly DePaulis field). When completed, we will have filled the gap in our recreational offerings town-wide. A special thanks to Allied Excavating of Warwick for their generous help with this project. I would also like to thank the Greenwood Lake Community Garden and the Greenwood Lake Gaelic Society for their patience as we moved their projects to other locations in the park.
