WARWICK — On Friday, June 27, Mayor Michael Newhard and members of the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce joined owner Betty Diamond and her daughter Bee for the official grand opening of Imagi-Knit Yarn.

The new shop, which opened in May, is located on the second floor at 1 Bank Street, over Peck's Wines and Spirits and adjacent to the South Street public parking lot.

Imagi-Knit Yarn features fine yarn, knitting and crocheting, embroidery and needlepoint supplies and accessories. Patterns are also available and some are free with yarn purchases.

Diamond learned to crochet at the age of eight while spending time with her grandmother.

Two years later she learned to knit at a local yarn shop in the Bronx where she grew up. And she said that it has always been her desire to open a yarn shop to help others learn by passing on her knowledge.

Her staff consists of her daughter Bee, who crochets, and her friend Laura Sedita, another experienced knitter who also crochets. And you may also find a customer helping out.

"At Imagi-Knit Yarn," said Diamond, "everyone is always friendly and willing to help with any problems."

Imagi-Knit has a large selection of yarns, both natural fibers, blends, and acrylics. Classes are offered every Tuesday from 12-2:30 p.m. and 6-7:30 p.m. Specialty classes will also be offered.

Customers are invited to stop in and sign up for an e-mail list to keep updated on classes and other events and to receive the monthly calendar. Imagi-Knit is open seven days and every Friday evening is "Sit and Sip," with free refreshments.

All are invited.
