Hudson Valley Honor Flight is seeking veterans for its next trip on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Departing from Stewart International Airport in New Windsor, the flight will take veterans on an all-expenses-paid trip to visit the nation’s war memorials in Washington, D.C. Veterans will travel by a police-escorted bus convoy for the daylong tour and fly back to New York that evening.

All area World War II, Korean War, and Cold War veterans who have not previously taken part in a Hudson Valley Honor Flight are eligible for the flight if they come from Orange, Ulster, Dutchess, Westchester, Rockland, Sullivan, and Putnam counties in New York, Pike County in Pennsylvania, Bergen County in New Jersey, and Fairfield County in Connecticut. Veterans from other surrounding counties are considered as well.

Veterans who served between World War II and the Korean War are also eligible. Vietnam-era veterans are invited to apply for future flights. Top priority is given to those of World War II and terminally ill veterans from other wars. Applications are online at hvhonorflight.com.

“Our fall flight is just around the corner and we still have seats to fill,” said Chair Frank Kimler. “We’re seeking veterans to join us for an unforgettable day of reflection, thanks, lots of laughs and maybe a few surprises along the way. We know they’re out there! We consider it a privilege to escort our heroes on this trip to our nation’s Capital. Thank you once again to ShopRite for their generosity in supporting our missions.”

Hudson Valley Honor Flight is a nonprofit based in Walden that honors area veterans for their sacrifices by bringing them to Washington, D.C., to visit their respective war memorials at no cost to them. It's the local hub of the National Honor Flight Network, which has more than 100 independent non-profit “hubs” nationwide.

Hudson Valley Honor Flight is seeking sponsors for future missions, as there are many worthy and eligible veterans and HVHF wants to continue honoring them. To learn more, call 845-391-0076.
