Hudson Sports purchases The Yard

WARWICK — On Tuesday Oct. 30, the long awaited auction of the property at the former Mid-Orange Facility known as The Yard was held in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Poughkeepsie.
The transfer of ownership from the State of New York to the Warwick Valley Land Development Corporation was the end of a long process that began when Gov. Andrew Cuomo first announced his intention to close the correctional facility in July 2011.
In 2014 the Warwick Valley Office and Technology Corporate Park in the former correctional facility sold what is now The Yard to Tony Abbatine, founder and International director of Frozen Ropes Training Centers.
But in 2017, The Yard closed and the subsequent Chapter 7-bankruptcy filing resulted in the auction.
The successful bid was $4,000,000 and the property was acquired by an entity, Hudson sports, that intends to reopen the facility as soon as possible as a sports training facility.
Erik Stover, a principal in the company founded by international soccer star Christian Fuchs, has stated they will be finalizing the purchase details and begin rebranding the facility within the next 30 days.
Town of Warwick Supervisor Michael Sweeton is pleased with the Hudson Sports acquisition and what it means for Warwick.
"We are very excited," he said, "that a firm of this caliber has chosen to invest in this property and our community. They are a first-class organization that will maximize the value for the Town and we welcome them with open arms."
