Historical Society hosts 2017 annual Wassail Party

WARWICK — The Historical Society of the Town of Warwick hosted its annual Wassail Party on Tuesday evening, Dec. 5,
The event was held in the society's historic Baird's Tavern on Main Street, which recently returned to its original Colonial-era purpose as a tavern.
This year the society partnered with tavern co-owner Adam Powers to continue offering this popular holiday event.
Guests enjoyed drinks at the new bar and lower level rooms and hors d'oeuvres specially created for the occasion in the society's upper level rooms.
The Merriam-Webster dictionary offers these definitions for wassail:
• An early English toast to someone's health;
• A hot drink that is made with wine, beer, or cider, spices, sugar, and usually baked apples and is traditionally served in a large bowl especially at Christmastime; and/or
• Riotous drinking and revelry.
