Halloween makes a comeback

WARWICK — It's back!
The traditional annual Halloween Parade down Main Street in the Village of Warwick returned Thursday, Oct. 31, with a large turnout of ghosts, goblins, witches and an assortment of movie, cartoon and other characters who assembled across the road from the Village Hall.
Last year, Warwick's parade was canceled as the result of Hurricane Sandy, also known as known as "Superstorm Sandy," which hammered the Northeast on Oct. 29, 2012. The storm had left much of Main Street without power, resulting in the cancellation of the parade.
And the previous year, 2011, a freak snowstorm with numerous power outages and downed trees had left many people believing there would be a light turnout, which turned out not to be true.
This year it was back to normal although there was a light drizzle.
Shortly after 5 p.m. the participants, led by local dignitaries, headed down Main Street to Railroad Green.
The huge line of march extended from the starting point, across from Village Hall, to almost the end of Main Street.
In previous years the annual Halloween Parade had been sponsored on alternate years by Warwick's American Legion Post 214 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4662.
This year, however, the Village of Warwick and Warwick Lions Club, sponsors of this year's event, elected to hold the Best Costume Contest, formerly held at Railroad Green, during the second annual Trunk or Treat event scheduled Saturday, Nov. 2, at Warwick Valley High School.
