On Saturday, April 17, Greenwood Lake Little League Baseball and Softball had its opening day parade, beginning on Windermere Avenue and ending at Lion’s Field.

GWL American Legion chaplain, the Rev. Robert Sweeney, said the opening prayer for the ball teams as they stood shoulder to shoulder from first to third base.

Jim Cicchetti, president of the GWL Little League, was the emcee for the ceremony.

Mayor Jesse Dwyer spoke of how he, too, played Little League baseball when he was younger. He also commemorated the new scoreboard named in honor of Jeff Hart. Hart passed away in January from COVID virus.

He lived in Greenwood Lake and coached many years of Little League and dedicated much of his time to the community. Hart’s former employer, Interstate Waste Services of Sloatsburg, paid the costs of the new scoreboard.

The Little League season was dedicated to Jeff Hart and Steve DeFeo. DeFeo passed away last November and was an active member of the GWL Fire Department.

He served as chaplain, president and captain of the Orange County Volunteer Firemen’s Association during his 22 years of service. He operated the DeFeo Marina in GWL for more than 40 years with his brother Nick.
