Greenwood Lake hosts outdoor hockey tournament

GREENWOOD LAKE — The first annual Greenwood Lake Winter Classic last Saturday attracted 24 teams from the tri-state area for robust outdoor contests and in the process raised $2,500 for the Greenwood Lake Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol.
Although it lasted a single day, the tournament took a month’s worth of planning. The vision came from Mark Palmieri and Joe Romano, with help from Frank Dieber, Joe Anthony from the Irish Whisper, members of the Greenwood Lake Police Department and the Dead Man’s Pond Pirates hockey team, who were out there on countless nights working on the rinks.
“Events like this,” one of the organizers said in a Facebook post, “remind us how lucky we are to live in a four-season community that can sometimes make us feel like we’re on vacation.”
